Meet the Expert: Q&A with Adam Norton, General Manager at Allentuck Landscaping

Behind every successful landscape project is a team of experienced professionals who know how to turn ideas into spaces families will enjoy for years to come.

This month, we’re sitting down with Adam Norton, General Manager at Allentuck Landscaping. Adam has been with Allentuck for six years, working his way from Account Manager to General Manager. Before joining our team, he owned and operated his own landscaping company on Long Island for nine years, giving him more than 20 years of industry experience.

When he’s not helping clients bring their outdoor visions to life, Adam enjoys spending time with his wife, young son, and new baby daughter. As someone who loves golfing, biking, fishing, and just about anything outdoors, helping families create spaces where they can enjoy the outdoors isn’t just his job—it’s something he genuinely values.

Q: What’s your favorite part of transforming a property?

A: Without question, it’s seeing the finished project. Watching a property transform into something the homeowner is proud of—and knowing they’ll enjoy it for years to come—is the most rewarding part of what we do.

Q: What’s one thing homeowners often overlook when planning their landscape?

A: It’s difficult to narrow it down to one thing, but most homeowners don’t realize how many moving parts go into a successful project. From drainage and grading to construction sequencing and material coordination, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. That’s where our experience comes in. We guide our clients through every step of the process, making what feels overwhelming much more manageable.

Q: What’s one piece of landscaping advice you give every homeowner?

A: Have a good plan. A well-thought-out design creates a much better outcome. Taking the time to plan properly helps avoid surprises, keeps the project moving smoothly, and results in an outdoor space that functions beautifully for years to come.

Q: What trends are homeowners asking for right now?

A: Hardscapes continue to evolve every year. Right now, we’re seeing homeowners gravitate toward new paver styles, unique color combinations, and creative patterns for patios and walkways. Many clients come in with inspiration from another project but want to make it their own. That’s something we really enjoy. We don’t want to simply recreate the same backyard over and over—we want every project to reflect the homeowner’s personality while still feeling timeless.

Q: What makes an outdoor space truly special?

A: It starts with understanding how the space will be used. The best outdoor environments aren’t built around one feature—they’re designed around the people who will enjoy them. Maybe it’s an outdoor kitchen for family dinners, comfortable seating for entertaining friends, or multiple gathering spaces that let everyone spread out while still feeling connected. When every area has a purpose, the entire landscape becomes more enjoyable.

Q: Do you have a favorite project you’ve worked on at Allentuck Landscaping?

Adam Horton Fave Project 3

A: One project that really stands out is a backyard we completed last year for a wonderful family. It featured a large pool, multiple connected patios, a custom pergola, beautiful plantings, and porcelain pavers—a newer material. Everything came together beautifully, and it was one of those projects where every detail complemented the next. It’s a great example of how thoughtful design can completely transform the way a family uses their outdoor space.

Adam Horton Fave Project 4

Every project is different because every family is different. That’s why we take the time to understand how you want to live outdoors before putting a plan on paper.

If you’re ready to create an outdoor space that’s designed around your lifestyle, Adam and the Allentuck Landscaping team are here to help.

At Allentuck Landscaping, we believe the best landscapes aren’t just beautiful—they’re functional, welcoming, and designed to help homeowners get more enjoyment from their property for years to come.

Because outdoor spaces should do more than look good.

They should help you fully enjoy and make lasting memories with those you love.

This Is 40: The Story of Allentuck Landscaping 40th Anniversary

In 1986, Allentuck Landscaping Co. was founded on something simple: hard work and the desire to build something meaningful. But the story starts even earlier. When Bruce was just 15 years old, he and his best friends wanted to work. They started a small neighborhood business—“Odd Jobs Unlimited”—mowing lawns and taking on whatever projects they could find. At one point, they had nine kids working for them. It was scrappy, resourceful, and fueled by initiative. That entrepreneurial spirit never left.
