This Is 40: The Story of Allentuck Landscaping 40th Anniversary

Owner, Bruce Allentuck

1st crew cleaned up version 4.22.26 In 1986, Allentuck Landscaping Co. was founded on something simple: hard work and the desire to build something meaningful.

But the story starts even earlier.

When Bruce was just 15 years old, he and his best friends wanted to work. They started a small neighborhood business—“Odd Jobs Unlimited”—mowing lawns and taking on whatever projects they could find. At one point, they had nine kids working for them. It was scrappy, resourceful, and fueled by initiative.

That entrepreneurial spirit never left.

From College Classes to Job Sites

After high school, Bruce pursued landscape horticulture at NC State. During his junior year, while living in Raleigh, his father printed business cards—preparing for what would come next. At graduation, those cards were handed back to him, and with them, the official start of Allentuck Landscaping Co.

There were jobs already lined up. Three friends. A tiny S-10 pickup truck.

And the rest is history.

The lessons from NC State’s horticulture program became the foundation:

  • Quality is not a bonus—it’s the starting point.
  • Planning matters.
  • Growth comes through people.

40 Years of Growth and Evolution

Since its founding in 1986, Allentuck Landscaping Co. has grown, adapted, and refined its focus.

Key milestones along the way include:

  • 1990: Addition of commercial maintenance services
  • 1992: Opening of Allentuck Nursery on Falls Road
  • 1996: Sale of the nursery
  • 1998: Launch of the Sea Colony branch
  • 2004: Closure of Sea Colony
  • 2016: Sale of the commercial division
  • 2019: Purchase of KART Landscape & Property

The company has evolved strategically, refining its services and sharpening its focus on delivering exceptional residential experiences.

Today, Allentuck Landscaping employs nearly 40 team members during peak season, including sales staff, operations leaders, crew leaders, designers, and specialists across hardscape, maintenance, snow removal, and enhancements. From a small pickup truck to a structured organization with experienced leadership, the growth has been steady—and intentional.

More Than Landscaping

At its core, Allentuck Landscaping exists for a bigger reason.

Their purpose is clear: Improving Lives Through Landscaping

Over four decades, one belief has remained constant: people don’t just want a nicer yard. They want a better way to live at home.

Well-designed outdoor spaces increase quality of life. They bring families outside. They create gathering places. They offer restoration, celebration, and everyday enjoyment.

The company’s vision reflects that commitment—to shape outdoor spaces that genuinely improve how people live, while becoming the region’s most trusted residential landscape team.

40 Years of Lessons

After four decades in business, some truths remain constant:

  • It’s all about people.
  • The experience is the differentiator.
  • Family comes first.
  • Preparation determines outcomes.

From a group of teenagers mowing lawns to a respected regional landscape company, the common thread has always been commitment—to quality, to growth, and to making a meaningful impact.

Forty years in, the mission remains the same.

Improve lives.
Shape spaces.
Do it the right way.

And keep building for what comes next.

If you’re planning improvements to your landscape this season, our team would be happy to help design a space that works with your property’s natural character.
