Honoring Service: Volunteering at Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery

This blog is being reposted in honor of Memorial Day and in remembrance of the brave men and women interred at Arlington National Cemetery. We share this story as a tribute to their sacrifice and to highlight how our team at Allentuck Landscaping Co. gives back through service.

On July 18, 2022, the Allentuck Landscaping Co. team had the distinct honor of participating in Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery—an annual event that brings together landscape and lawn care professionals from across the country for a day of volunteer service on the cemetery grounds.

Organized by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), Renewal & Remembrance is one of the largest landscape volunteer events in the nation. Over 400 professionals from more than 100 companies come together to help maintain and beautify this sacred site, which serves as the final resting place for over 400,000 veterans and their family members.

Our team joined hundreds of fellow volunteers in tasks like:

  • Aerating and lime application across expansive turf areas

  • Irrigation system upgrades and inspections

  • Soil testing and nutrient applications

  • Tree cabling and lightning protection

  • Planting and mulching around memorials and pathways

While the physical work is important, the emotional weight of the experience is what truly stays with us. Walking the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, surrounded by thousands of white headstones that represent generations of service and sacrifice, is incredibly humbling. Every volunteer project we take on—every patch of turf we treat or system we maintain—feels deeply personal when you realize who we’re serving.

For our team, this event is more than just a day of giving back. It’s a moment of reflection and gratitude. Participating in Renewal & Remembrance aligns perfectly with our core values at Allentuck Landscaping Co.—especially our belief in community and honoring those who make a difference.

It’s also inspiring to witness the landscaping industry come together with a shared sense of purpose. For one day, we set aside competition and commercial concerns, and focus purely on service. That unity is something truly special.

We are incredibly proud of our team for stepping up and contributing their skills and time to such a meaningful cause. It’s a tradition we intend to continue, and one that reminds us why we do what we do—not just to make spaces beautiful, but to make a difference where it matters most.

To all the men and women interred at Arlington National Cemetery—we remember you, we honor you, and we thank you.
