See How the Allentuck Team Transformed This Longtime Client’s Home Over Many Years

At Allentuck Landscaping Company, we love nothing more than to bring our client’s ultimate vision to life. This has led to our team putting together numerous beautiful outdoor living spaces, many complete with a pool, fire elements, water features, custom plant installations, and much more. We started our Project Spotlights series to share some of our favorite projects here on our blog—and today’s project, an outdoor living space with a pool, is one of the most unique we’ve ever worked on.

While some homeowners like to build up their outdoor space in one fell swoop, others have worked with us over the course of many years to transform their outdoor space piece by piece. This client has taken it to another level, working with the Allentuck team to develop their landscaping starting more than 20 years ago! We’ve been delighted to have them as a client in that time, and seeing their reaction each time we add another piece to their outdoor space is worth it every time. Let’s take a look at this project!

Our Client: Potomac Homeowners

Our team has worked with this client for more than 20 years, since their Potomac home was first being completed. Homeowners Nancy and Paul were old acquaintances of founder Bruce Allentuck, who wrestled with Nancy’s brother in high school. At the start, these homeowners wanted a handful of landscaping features to match their new house, with additional projects being added over the years that followed.

The Finishing Touches to a New Home

When the house was first built, our team at Allentuck was called in to add some features that would be the finishing touches for their new home. These features would help to tie in the home to the land around it and add some beautiful extra touches that our clients felt were crucial to the house feeling like home.

At this time, we designed the entire front area of the home, complete with a contemporary walkway to match the new home. We added features like a Hipps Stone wall, tied in the mailbox, added a gorgeous trellis, and planted a Japanese maple and irises, which were particularly important to Nancy. With this completed, the home was ready to welcome new visitors.

Adding a Patio and Fire Pit

A few years later, Nancy and Paul were looking to expand the living space of their home, adding hardscape features to the back that would make their outdoor space perfect for gathering. We designed and built a patio for them that would serve this purpose perfectly, and installed a fire pit. The fire pit was a boulder gas pit that matched the patio perfectly and would serve as a centerpiece for the back space.

Designing the Perfect Pool Space

Many homeowners feel that adding an outdoor living space with a pool would  truly complete their landscape. For Nancy and Paul, their hope was to design the perfect space for their grandkids to enjoy, along with a relaxing place for them to kick back, read, and enjoy their retirement.

We worked with them to design the outdoor living space with a pool over the course of 8 years, as we maintained their existing landscaping installations. Once work began, we planned and built a 9 foot retaining wall, then backfilled it to create a lawn area around the pool that would provide plenty of space to play or relax nearby.

The Allentuck team also worked with a local ironworks company to develop a fence that would match the railings of the pool’s deck. The fences included horizontal boards for a more contemporary look, and brought the whole space together with elegant lighting to highlight the beautiful features it includes.

The result once we completed this long-anticipated installation was one of our favorite outdoor living spaces, complete with a pool that was perfectly tied in.
