Allentuck Landscaping Co. Celebrates 500 Safety Days Without An Injury

Allentuck landscaping team

Safety is a big deal.

The safety of our team is one of the most important things we commit to at Allentuck Landscaping Co. When someone comes to work at our company, their goal is to provide for their family. They are putting their faith in our leadership team that they will not be harmed during their day at work. It is our responsibility to assure this.

I give a safety talk to our entire team every Monday morning. I always end it with this phrase, “Take care of each other, take care of our customers. This is not a flippant statement. I know that it takes each of us looking out for each other to make sure everyone is being safe. Our work is hard and tiring. Our team is exposed to harsh elements of weather. They get worn out after a hard work day. Sometimes this may cause someone to skip a safety step, or forget to put on their personal protection equipment (eye protection, ear plugs, etc). This is why we must look after each other. To catch these errant missteps.

I like to remind my team that they come to work each morning with ten fingers, ten toes, two eyes, etc, and that I expect them to leave with those intact at the end of each and every day. I mean this sincerely. It would be dreadful to have someone get hurt in my company. I have seen it happen in other companies and never want it to happen at Allentuck Landscaping Co.

This week we celebrated passing 500 days without a work related injury. It is a huge deal. Not many companies can say something like that. Are we luckier that good? Maybe, but I would like to think it is because we have an amazing group of experienced leaders. Our Crew Leader corp has an average tenure of over 15 years with Allentuck Landscaping Co. This is a lot of experience and know-how. I watch our Crew Leaders coach and train our newer team members and know that they focus on how to do the job safely. I see our managers watching over our crews and making sure that safety procedures are followed. I am extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people to work with.

At the end of the day, accidents can happen anywhere. I cannot guarantee that we will make it to 600 days without something going wrong. But I can guarantee that we will keep the focus on being safe and stressing the importance of safety.
