8 Ways To Save Your Planet On Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day With These Earth Friendly Activities

We have one planet earth. That’s it. One.

If the water is polluted, we can’t drink it. If there air is polluted, we can’t breath it. If we deplete the trees, well, you get the idea.

With Earth Day fast approaching (April 22, 2017), here are 8 ways to celebrate and honor the earth.

Plant A Pollinator Garden

The bee population is in trouble and without bees, there are no fruits and vegetables. Planting a pollinator garden will help them survive. The good news is that many plants that pollinators like are also quite pretty. Additional good news: plants that attract bees also attract butterflies!

Take A Hike

Connecting back with nature always has a good effect on the human brain. What better way to do that, and get a little exercise, is to go for a hike. Click this link for some of the most enjoyable hiking trails in the area –  Trails

 Make Shade

Planting the right shade tree near your home will cool it in the summer and allow light through for the winter helping to warm it up. Be sure to use the correct species though. Check out our blog post Using Trees To Cool Your Home for more information.

 Go Native

We love native plants! Native plants have a better chance of surviving in our area and require less care because they are used to our conditions and pests. They also help attract and feed wildlife. Read Beautiful, Beneficial Native Plants for Maryland to learn more.

Switch To Safe Lawn Care

If you have read any of our blog posts in the last year, you know we are big fans of safer lawn care. There is no longer any reason to pump tons of pesticides and fertilizers into the environment. Learn about our Kid Safe, Pet Safe, Earth Safe Hybrid Organic Lawn Care  Program at Safe Lawn Care.

Harvest Rain

Instead of letting rain water flow off your property, why not capture it in rain barrels and let it water your gardens. So easy and obvious.

 Grow Veggies

Growing your own vegetables is both rewarding and healthy. Growing your own vegetables is sustainable because it reduces shipping and trips to the store. Enjoy!

Go On Litter Patrol

Ok. This one may not be as fun but it is rewarding. Did you know that 1.9 billion tons of litter end up in the oceans each year. Do your part to help reduce this by picking up some along the way. Earth thanks you!

Feed The Birds

There are very few things more relaxing than watching birds and hearing their songs. Attract them with feeders or any of the plants from this list:  These Winter Plants For Birds.

Have a wonderful Earth Day and enjoy your time outside!
