Where Do Your Fall Leaves Go?

autumn leaves hanging from a tree

Living in a four-season climate is wonderful! We get to enjoy all the changes of the seasons. The flowers in spring, the sun in the summer, the leaves changing in the fall, and, although some people may not enjoy it, snow in the winter.

It is that time between fall and winter that can be challenging to landscape contractors. This is when leaves fall from the trees and create havoc in our schedules.

Truthfully, it is not that bad. Disposing of the leaves, however, can be a huge challenge. There are just not that many options in our area, and some of them require a lot of time and money to use.

Most people do not think about where the leaves go after we remove them, and why would they? Our teams show up and the leaves are removed. Our team at Allentuck Landscaping Co., however, begins thinking about it in mid-Summer.

Our first goal is not to remove the leaves at all but to use our lawn mowers to grind them up into tiny little pieces. This has a huge benefit for the lawns we service. All of the nutrients and organic matter that is trapped in the leaves is returned to the soil to the benefit of the grass plants. By doing this, the leaves are recycled and no trucking is involved.

Watch Us In Action

If it is necessary to remove leaf materials from the property due to the quantity of leaves or too high a moisture content to shred them, we still make sure they are repurposed in a sustainable manner.

For the last few years, Allentuck Landscaping Co. has partnered with a local farm to dispose of the leaves. When our trucks are full, we take them to the farm and dump them in wind rows. The farm composts the leaves to improve the soil for growing grapes and flowers. The leaves are also used in the pig pen as bedding and food! This is the ultimate in recycling!

It is always our goal to operate as sustainably as possible. To be able to support another local business at the same time makes our planning all the more worthwhile.
