Landscaping Makes For Good Neighbors

Yard that needs to be cleaned up

Improve Your Landscape. Improve Your Neighborhood

Everyone has one; that neighbor who just won’t mow their lawn or take care of their landscape. Their yard is an eyesore and worse, their lawn could be harvesting pest and their untidiness could be bringing down the value of your home!

Are you that neighbor? Here are 6 things you can do to be a good landscape neighbor.

Mow Your Lawn

Overly long grass not only looks bad, it gives pests like rats, mice and ticks a place to hide. Long grass also gives weeds a foothold in your neighborhood. We recommend weekly mowing of grass between 2.5”-3” in length. By the way, if you keep it regularly mowed to this height, you can leave the grass clippings on the lawn to add nutrients back into the soil.

Prune Overhanging Tree Limbs

Tree limbs overhanging your neighbor’s home or parking space are dangerous. They could fall during a storm and cause a lot of property damage, or worse, hurt someone. Take a look around your property and see if any of your trees pose a risk to your neighbor. Be sure to hire a licensed and insured professional tree company for any work that needs to be done.

Plant Some Screening Plants

What happens in your yard or home, may be seen by your neighbors. Plants some screening plants to hide ugly areas of your yard or home, or just to keep whatever may happen in your home private.

Get Rid Of Lawn Weeds

What happens in your yard, does not necessarily stay in your yard. Most weeds give off a lot of seeds. It is how they spread so fast. If you have weeds in your yard, chances are pretty good your neighbor will also most likely end up with weeds. As always, use pesticides wisely or hire a licensed professional.

Fix Drainage Problems

Water runs downhill, always. Don’t point your downspout pipes towards your neighbor’s property. Use a pop-emitter to dissipate the water or a flo-well device to help the water permeate underground. Eliminate standing water near property lines. Standing water becomes a mosquito breeding ground. Yikes.

Plant Some Flowers

Everybody likes flowers. What better way to brighten your neighborhood and create a more welcoming home!
