Revisiting the front walkway, patio and landscape project in Potomac, Maryland was a pleasure.
It is always nice to go back and see how our projects are doing several years after they were installed. In this case study, we went back to look at how a Potomac, Maryland project had matured since it’s installation (see photos below). The original project has been completed in 2011 and Allentuck Landscaping Co. has maintained it since.
The entryway included flagstone steps with three landings between the street and the front door. Each flagstone landing was edged with cobble stone to give a striking detail finish. The top landing was actually more of a sitting terrace and to create this differentiation, the flagstones were turned 45 degrees to create a checkerboard effect. The terrace is also separated from the rest of the landscape b a 24″ tall stone wall. Inside the terrace the relaxing sound of water comes from a lions’head wall fountain.
Well placed landscape lighting throughout the gardens give a warm glow at night and help light the way to the front door. An automatic irrigation systems provides the right amount of water to keep all of the plants and lawns flourishing.
Our client is passionate and knowledgeable about plants so the selections were of great importance. A row of Shasta Daisies set between Green Velvet Boxwoods and the stone wall give an air of freshness. Other flowering plants including Caryopteris, Astilbe, Hydrangea, Daylily and Iris provide color rotation throughout the seasons.
