The Ultimate Guide To An Extraordinary Patio – Part 2

Patio Terrace North Potomac, MD

Adding Special Features Will Make Your Patio Extraordinary

This is the second part of a two part blog post. Part 1 focused on material selection and design (Part 1). This part will focus on patio features that you can add to a patio to make it extraordinary.

Patios really are your outdoor family room. We go to a lot of trouble to make our indoor family room a great place to relax and kick back. Our “outdoor family rooms” should get the same kind of consideration. There are lots of ways to customize your patio to make sure it fits your lifestyle and offers you the kind of experience you want to have in it.

Add a seat wall

This sounds simple enough, and it is. A seat wall around part of your patio not only provides extra seating capacity, but also creates a boundary to your patio, making it feel cozier and more private. Another benefit to a seat wall is that when other families come over, the children naturally migrate to sit on the seat wall leaving the parents to enjoy the meal at the table even more.  Adding lights to a seat wall creates terrific ambiance.

Light it up

Speaking of lighting, lighting can greatly enhance any patio room and extend its usefulness into the night. Proper lighting can create just about any mood that you may want for your patio. Lighting also offers safety and security benefits. With today’s technology, LED lights can also save energy and reduce the need to change light bulbs. An automatic timer makes the whole system care free.

 Let there be fire!

What is better than sitting around a campfire in the comfort of your backyard. A fire pit or outdoor fire place can really make a good evening a great evening. There are tons of material options available to suit every taste. Choose from wood burning or gas, just save us a s’more.

 Let’s Get Cooking

One of the most useful and enjoyable features to add to a patio is an outdoor kitchen. When designing an outdoor kitchen, one can go as simple or as fancy as one’s imagination. Grill, bar, storage and refrigerator are only a few of the options to consider. Don’t worry if a gas line is not available, outdoor kitchens can work great using propane as well.

With so many options available, there is no reason to settle for a boring patio. Make your patio extraordinary and enjoy!
