Contemporary Outdoor Living Room in Washington DC

IMG 1267

Strong lines, geometric shapes and bold colors come together in this unique outdoor living space in Spring Valley. The home was recently re-built in a very contemporary style so the patio area naturally had to match. For the seat walls and outdoor kitchen we used Techobloc Graphix block in nickel grey with onyx colored caps. The paver patio was built using a combination of Techobloc Blu pavers in shale grey and onyx. The kitchen grill and access doors were all stainless steel. The project had some difficult drainage problems which we solved with a series of surface rains, corrective grading, and by taking the downspouts underground.

A Family Gathering Space in North Potomac, Maryland

Our customer had a nice second story deck but wanted to expand the outdoor living space by adding a patio outside their basement door. We designed a paver patio that would also have a nice seat wall along two sides of it. Lights were added under the seat wall cap to expand its use well into the night. Stairs access was added from the deck to the patio to make going back and forth seamless. To finish the project off, we added new plantings in the front yard and along the rear fence.

Entry Plaza in North Bethesda, Maryland

The layout of this home, with its separate garage in front of the home, created a unique space for us to design. An existing large Japanese Maple absolutely had to be preserved so we turned it into the focal point of the project. The entry stoop was covered with Pennsylvania flagstone and the riser was faced with Carderock stone. The entry walkway and plaza were paved with Techo Bloc 60mm Blu pavers (Color: Sandlewood). The garden was edged with Indian Cobble block to make sure the Japanese Maple truly stood out.

A Hillside Re-Imagined in Rockville, Maryland

Landscape Projects

For this project, we were presented with a very difficult hill problem to solve. Our customer was tired of mowing the dangerous slopes. Additionally, the existing steps were not connected to the driveway so the flow to the front door simply did not work well. We designed a flowing garden on the slopes with several Redbud ‘Forest Pansy’, Anthony Waterer Spirea, Blue Pacific Juniper and All Gold Forest Grass. There are plants for every season in this garden. A new double tier flagstone walkway was installed with a small sitting are at the top from which guests can be greeted.

A Paver Patio and Outdoor Kitchen in Bethesda, Maryland

Our customer had an old brick patio that was falling apart and wanted to create a much more usable space for his family to dine on and to entertain friends. We designed a multi-layer patio which included plenty of room for dining, an outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit area to enjoy in the evenings. The patios were build using Nicolock Stoneridge pavers (color: Peconic) edged with Nicolock Holland Pavers (color: charcoal). The seat wall and outdoor kitchen were built using Nicolock Colonial block (oyster blend). The grill and access door are stainless steel. Lighting was added under the steps and wall caps to give a special glow to the space in the evenings.

Creating Lawn In The Shade in Rockville, Maryland

Landscape Projects
Before

What does one do when their backyard is so shady that grass will not grow and the kids still want a lawn to play on? We suggest using artificial turf. It is soft to play on and needs no care whatsoever. In a addition, our team re-set and expanded a flagstone patio, added shade loving plantings, and installed a drainage system to keep everything nice and dry.

What to Look for When Hiring A Hardscape Contractor Near You (and What to Avoid)

If you’ve been searching “hardscape contractor near me” lately, you already know how overwhelming it is. Every company says they’re “the best,” every ad promises “premium craftsmanship,” and all the websites start to blur together after a while.
